Inspiring Words, Scaffolding Strategies
Welcome to my wiki of resources for scaffolding writing processes and strategies in the classroom. My name is Disa Walker I am a teacher in Dunedin, New Zealand. As a classroom teacher I have been strongly influenced by Marie Clay's inspiring body of research work. Her work has enabled me to see the readers in my class through different eyes and made my observations more powerful and relevant. I was also aware that this understanding was unbalanced, while I could easily discuss my understanding of the reading strategies I was trying to support in my classroom, I did not have the same confidence when teacher writing. The work on this wiki is a summary of many of the things I have been working on to clarify what I may focus on in my classroom to support students as writers.

This wiki is organised into several areas to ease navigation. Writing is a dynamic process and should not be taught in pieces. If you intend to use these resources please read the information regarding them carefully. The scaffolds are to develop independent control of the writing process, they are not activities and using them as such will not empower your students. These resources/scaffolds are also just some I have come up with and found useful but they are not the 'only way' or the 'right way'. I would love to hear from other people about scaffolds you have developed or how the ones provided here have been used successfully or adapted in your classroom.

Below is a powerpoint that I have used to present some of this work. Please note that by only viewing this presentation there is much that may be missed. This presentation is very much a summary of the work I have been doing and much of it will not make sense outside of the discussion which goes alongside this work. This presentation is really here for those who have attended my workshop to review.
